French Roots
Georges Monin founded the Monin Company in Bourges, France, in the year 1912. The forefather of the Monin brand distributed premium fruit cordials and wines to bar, restaurant and gourmet retail markets across France, promptly establishing the Monin Company as a leader in quality. In fact, Georges Monin’s motto La Passion de la Qualité (“Passion for Quality”) became the Monin slogan, a slogan that is still driving the company today.
A Timeline of Monin’s Global Expansion
From 1912 to today, Monin has grown to be the leading producer of gourmet flavorings used in restaurants, coffeehouses, bars and homes in over 100 countries.
Georges Monin started exporting in the 1930s to other European countries and the Caribbean. In 1945 Paul Monin became the president of the Monin company and initiated further national distribution as well as exportation.
In 1992 Paul Monin transferred the Company to his son Olivier. Olivier expanded the reach of Monin products to the United States, the Americas, the Middle East, Asia and beyond. Olivier Monin is the current President of the Monin Company.
The Monin-USA office opened in 1993 to support the distribution of Monin products in the Americas; in 1996 the manufacturing plant was complete.
In January 2005, the Monin Asia branch office opened in Singapore to handle Asia and Oceania. Also in January 2005, Monin France opened the Studio, a state-of-the-art product and application development facility where new drink recipes are developed and tested prior to being launched. In early 2006, Monin USA inaugurated the Flavor Café, contiguous to the Monin Clearwater plant . Just like the Studio in France, the Flavor Café is an ideal venue for meetings and for the development of new Monin products and beverages.
In late 2006, Monin acquired Guiot Flavorings, a high-end syrup flavor developer, producer and distributor founded in France in 1871. Guiot’s quality production processes perfectly complement Monin’s. Guiot produces branded and private label products for large retail outlets and the foodservice industry, which will strengthen Monin’s world-class leadership in meeting the growing consumer demand for quality flavors.
In early 2007, Monin USA completed the expansion of the U.S. production facility that now boasts three fully automated production lines.
In June 2007, Monin MEI opened in Dubai, UAE, and is in charge of the Middle East, India and Mediterranean countries.
Looking to the Future
As millions of bottles are shipped to all parts of the world, Monin still upholds its long-standing tradition of quality. Attention to detail, partnering with customers, anticipating consumer trends, and La Passion de la Qualité are the pillars on which the Monin Company is building continued leadership in the flavoring industry for generations to come.
